Rabbi David Ellenson, PhD & Chancellor Arnold Eisen, PhD – March 15, 2019
From the Rabbi David Lyon
Listen. Read. Enjoy.
What are you reading and listening to? I have three suggestions for you to fill your days and nourish your soul.
Every Sunday morning, following a long tradition that began with Rabbi Samuel Karff, I’ve been leading a radio program on iHeartRadio’s KODA Sunny 99.1, at 6:45am. Listeners around the greater Houston area, and now the internet, find me on Sunday morning with words about life and its meaning from a Jewish point-of-view. Listeners often email me later to ask for a copy of a program or to thank me for helping them. People of all faiths and no faith listen regularly on their way to work, to the golf course, or just as they wake up. If you’re up, tune in and listen up. It’s your rabbi!
This just in, every radio program will be available as a Podcast, called “Heart to Heart with Rabbi David Lyon”. You can find it on www.Sunny99.com or the iHeartRadio app. On the website, scroll down to Podcasts, and find the Beth Israel logo and “Heart to Heart with Rabbi David Lyon”. On the app, click Podcasts, and choose “Heart to Heart with Rabbi David Lyon”. It’s easy, and you can listen to me anywhere you go.
A good book is always welcome, but the subject of God isn’t easy. So, I wrote “God of Me: Imagining God throughout Your Lifetime” to break down crystallized childhood images of God and re-build a personal image of God through authentic text and contemporary interpretation that works for one’s adulthood and maturity. Over ten chapters, the arc of life is reflected in how one’s image of God grows and moves as one ages. Like our ancestors, we merit a personal relationship with God, too. One God, not two or three or none, is all we need to begin. After reading “God of Me” (Jewish Lights Publishing, 2011), you might say, “God is with me, after all.”
Listen. Read. Enjoy.
