Yahrzeits and Yahrzeit Plaques

 YAHRZEIT OBSERVANCE

The Shabbat observance of your loved one is determined by the date of death and where that falls within our yahrzeit observance week, which is calculated Sunday – Saturday. The weekly deadline to change a yahrzeit reading is Thursdays at 12 noon.  Any changes requested after the deadline may not appear in print in the Friday Night Guide but can still be read aloud.

For yahrzeit assistance please contact our Cemetery Director at (713) 771-6221 ext. 310.

YAHRZEIT PLAQUES

Losing a loved one is probably one of life’s most difficult trials. While the loved one lives on in our own personal memories, some of us seek ways to honor this person with a tangible memorial. A yahrzeit plaque may be purchased in memory of a loved one, whether or not the deceased was a member of Congregation Beth Israel. Each plaque will accommodate the name of one person.

Installed on the Sanctuary Memorial Wall, yahrzeit plaques are perpetually lit on Yizkor and on the Shabbat observance of your loved ones’ yahrzeit and are installed alphabetically by last name. Orders are processed quarterly (or sooner if there are enough orders to meet the vendor minimum requirements), with an approximate 8- 10 week production time after the proof is approved. You will receive the proof by email.

Each Yahrzeit Plaque is 1 ½” tall by 6 ½” wide, and will allow for your loved one’s name, and dates of birth and death to be etched onto the plaque.

The name line may be up to 26 characters, including spaces and punctuation. PLEASE PRINT CLEARLY. The next line will include dates of birth (if known) and death. Examples are below:

 ZELDA KAPLAN GREENBAUMM
April 13, 1920 – March 23, 1988
