About our Jewish Community Membership in Houston

With a strong tradition and dedicated clergy, Congregation Beth Israel provides a variety of programs that will fit your religious needs. These include:

Diverse worship options: There are a variety of environments for you to learn and praise in, from our traditional Friday night Shabbat or Torah study to our Tot Shabbat. These are all available in live streaming format on our website.

Learning programs: It is important to find Houston Jewish community membership programs that encourage learning. Congregation Beth Israel is home to The Shlenker School, a Jewish day school offering a 10-year program for children fifteen months old through fifth grade. The school integrates secular and Jewish curriculum in our nurturing environment. Congregation Beth Israel also provides religious education for adults and children preparing for Bar and Bat Mitzvah.

A diverse congregation: One of the most enjoyable parts about being included in the Houston Jewish community membership is the diverse congregation around you – Millennials, members of the LGBT community, empty-nesters, and more. All walks of life bring value to our community, and all are welcome.

Our Jewish community membership in Houston are not only plentiful, but in an effort to make our synagogue accessible to all, we operate on a fair share dues system where we ask members to pay only what they can.

The Hurricane Harvey Flood Fund

Hurricane Harvey left Houston and surrounding areas in a shambles, but the great people of Houston are banding together to help and heal. Your help is welcome and needed. You may send Gift Cards (Kroger, Target, HEB, Lowe’s, or Visa/Mastercard, etc.) to Congregation Beth Israel. They will be immediately distributed to area neighbors to assist in replacing essential items and children’s school supplies.

You may also Donate directly to Congregation Beth Israel by clicking here. All funds will go directly to aid those who need immediate help. These funds will NOT be held to be allocated later. On behalf of our clergy (Rabbi David Lyon, Rabbi Adrienne Scott, Rabbi Joshua Herman, Rabbi Chase Foster, and Cantor Trompeter), David Scott, Executive Director, and Bruce Levy, Temple President, we are very grateful for your kindness, generosity, and help.

Hurt has no shame and no label; we just need to heal one another.

Rabbi David Lyon
