About Our Reform Synagogue by the Houston Galleria

Congregation Beth Israel is truly a special synagogue and we encourage you to leverage the resources that we offer the local community. The following is a little bit of background information about our congregation and our various Galleria Reform Jewish outreach programs.

Oldest Jewish Congregation in Texas: Formed in the mid 1800s, Congregation Beth Israel proudly stands as the oldest Jewish congregation in the state of Texas. This is a tradition and history that we embrace.

Cemeteries: In line with history and tradition, our 1844 West Dallas Cemetery has been designated a historic cemetery by the Texas Historical Commission. It is one of the oldest cemeteries in Texas.

Resources: Our extensive resources are available for more than our 1,600+ member families. We offer Reform Jewish outreach programs in the Houston Galleria for those who are interested in learning more about the faith — whether they are thinking of converting or are about to enter an interfaith marriage.

The Shelenker School: Our Galleria Reform Jewish synagogue is home to The Shlenker School, established 30 years ago for children Pre-K through fifth grade. We also have one of the most extensive libraries in our Hyman Judah Schachtel Library, which draws scholars from all around the country to access this robust collection of literature — some of which dates back to the mid-1800s.

The list goes on from there — our Reform Jewish synagogue by the Houston Galleria strives to serve as a resource for Jewish men and women to further their faith walk while being available for members of the community at large when they have questions about the Jewish faith.
