  • Difficult Conversations with Our Loved Ones: Sacred Aging
  • Wednesday, April 10, 2019 | 7:00pm | Ladin Dining Room | Free Event
    • Our Inclusion Committee presents Jane Shapiro from Houston Jewish Funerals, who will speak about the pre-planning process for the death of a loved one. She will share insights from her experience, and Rabbi Adrienne Scott will also teach us about Jewish ways of death and mourning. Being prepared for what lies ahead creates stability and allows all of us to enjoy our remaining time together. We look forward to welcoming you to this important conversation.

  • Monthly Midrash Meet & Eat
  • Thursday, April 11, 2019 | 11:30am Margolis Gallery | Free Event
    • Go beyond the basics of Judaism with David Scott, RJE! Using ancient sources, we will come to a modern understanding of timeless themes. We will use selections from our early rabbinic writings, known as midrash, and also explore other biblical texts in addition to the Torah. If you’ve always wanted to learn more about Judaism but didn’t know where to start, then this class is for you! This month’s topic is “Insights into Passover.” Lunch will be provided.

The Hurricane Harvey Flood Fund

Hurricane Harvey left Houston and surrounding areas in a shambles, but the great people of Houston are banding together to help and heal. Your help is welcome and needed. You may send Gift Cards (Kroger, Target, HEB, Lowe’s, or Visa/Mastercard, etc.) to Congregation Beth Israel. They will be immediately distributed to area neighbors to assist in replacing essential items and children’s school supplies.

You may also Donate directly to Congregation Beth Israel by clicking here. All funds will go directly to aid those who need immediate help. These funds will NOT be held to be allocated later. On behalf of our clergy (Rabbi David Lyon, Rabbi Adrienne Scott, Rabbi Joshua Herman, Rabbi Chase Foster, and Cantor Trompeter), David Scott, Executive Director, and Bruce Levy, Temple President, we are very grateful for your kindness, generosity, and help.

Hurt has no shame and no label; we just need to heal one another.

Rabbi David Lyon
