DESCRIPTION:  \nSeventy years ago\, the Confirmation Class of 1949\, a group of young men and women adorned in white robes\, ascended the bimah to be blessed at Temple Beth Israel on Holman Street. Today\, they look back with fondness for enduring friendships and memories that never grow old. On Friday\, May 3\, 2019\, members of the Confirmation Class of 1949\, will be called to the bimah for a blessing\, again. All are welcome to be present and witness this special time in their life and ours. DESCRIPTION:*Please note that\, due to inclement weather\, the Yom Ha’atzmaut celebration will now take place at the Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center (5601 S. Braeswood\, Houston\, TX 77096) — NOT at the Merfish Teen Center.* \n  \n \nCome out and celebrate 71 years of Israel…Tel Aviv style! On Thursday\, May 9th from 4:30-7:00pm\, Congregation Beth Israel will participate as a community sponsor at the “Israel at 71 Celebration” taking place at Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center (5601 S. Braeswood\, Houston\, TX 77096). This special event will feature an Israeli-style torch lighting ceremony and a Eurovision-inspired concert with local musicians. There will be games\, crafts\, and activities for children of all ages\, open swimming (4:30-6:00pm)\, and Kosher food for purchase from Laykie’s Café at the J\, My Pita\, and Genesis Steakhouse. Street parking available; off -site parking and buses available from the ERJCC.
