Rabbi David A. Lyon – Senior Rabbi 1Rabbi David Lyon, originally from Chicago, Illinois, has had a rich and diverse career in the rabbinate since his ordination in 1990 from HUC-JIR in Cincinnati. He has served congregations as Assistant Rabbi and Associate Rabbi at Congregation Beth Israel in Houston, Texas, and as Rabbi at Congregation Shaarey Zedek in East Lansing, Michigan, and Temple Shalom in Dallas, Texas, before returning to Congregation Beth Israel in 2004 as Senior Rabbi.

In his current role, Rabbi Lyon serves a vibrant congregation of 1600 families, focusing on inclusive participation in education, worship, interfaith outreach, and Israel advocacy. Beyond his local community, he is actively involved in various organizations, serving on the board of the Jewish Community Legacy Project (JCLP), and ADL’s Coalition for Mutual Respect. He also holds national leadership positions, including President-Elect of the CCAR Board(Central Conference of American Rabbis) and serving on the Board of Trustees of the Reform Pension Board (RPB).

A prolific writer and communicator, Rabbi Lyon shares his insights and teachings through a weekly blog to his congregation and a weekly Sunday morning radio message, “Heart to Heart with Rabbi David Lyon,” which is available on iHeartRadio’s podcast platform and www.sunny99.com. He is also the author of the book “God of Me: Imagining God Throughout Your Lifetime,” published in 2011.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Rabbi Lyon finds joy in his family life. He is married to Lisa, and together they have four grown children: Jeremy (Mimi), Adam (Claire), Abby (Randy), and Emma. They also cherish their role as grandparents to Ronen, Annabelle, and Henry.
