Shabbat Services for Young Families

We offer special Shabbat experiences for families and young children every month here at Beth Israel!  Each month we offer either a Friday night Family Shabbat, or a Saturday morning Shabbat Shindig.  Both are wonderful ways to build community, meet new friends, introduce children to the joy of Shabbat, and create sacred memories as a family.  Please check the E-News or the MBJLC Bulletin for the next Family Shabbat or Shabbat Shindig, or contact Rabbi Joshua Herman at for more information.

Family Shabbat

Family Shabbat services begin on Fridays at 6:00 p.m. on the Shlenker side of our campus. We begin with a special Shabbat worship experience which is musical, energetic, and joyful.  Following services, we will say the Shabbat blessings together and then enjoy Shabbat dinner.  Children are then welcome to participate in a special activity or art project, while parents have a moment to enjoy wine and cheese.  On some Family Shabbatot, we even offer a fun, relaxed conversation for parents about relevant issues.  Family Shabbat is intended for families with children younger than b’nei mitzvah age, but older siblings are of course welcome to attend! .

Shabbat Shindig

Quarterly we meet on a Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. for a Shabbat Shindig.  This program is directed toward families with children five years old and younger, although we of course welcome older siblings.  We meet on the Shlenker side of the campus and begin with a brief moment of songs and prayers to remember Shabbat and create a joyous atmosphere.  Families can then help themselves to brunch, followed by art activities and free time on the playground.
