Funerals

When you face the death of a loved one, there are many difficult decisions that must be made and families are often in need of comfort, support and guidance. Our clergy are here to assist and support you during these difficult times.

In the event of a death, please contact the Temple immediately. If a death occurs when our offices are closed, you may call any of our clergy directly or your funeral home will know how to reach us. The funeral date and time must be coordinated with the family, funeral home and clergy. Please speak with one of clergy before setting a time. Most Houston funeral homes are familiar with Jewish customs and should be able to accommodate your needs, or you may discuss your options with one of our clergy or call our Cemetery Coordinator Doris Markoff at (713) 771-6221 ext. 600.

Beth Israel members and their families may be buried in our cemeteries; plots are available at our Antoine grounds. If you are in immediate need, or would like to take care of your pre-planning arrangements so that your loved ones are not tasked with this responsibility later, in a time of grief, please contact Doris Markoff at 713-771-6221 ext. 600.

You may also find the following resources helpful:
A new book, DIGNITY BEYOND DEATH: The Jewish Preparation for Burial

www.houstonjewishfunerals.com which provides resources for understanding Jewish funerals and sitting shiva customs.
