By Kindergarten, your child can find the Afikomen in your best hiding place, has a mini-Hebrew vocabulary and loves Matzoh Ball soup for Shabbat dinner and challah French toast every Saturday morning. Nurturing a strong Jewish identity in your child includes an early rite of passage igniting a love of Jewish learning: the consecration ceremony marking the beginning of a formal Jewish education.

Taking center stage on the bimah, your child will be blessed and instructed by the rabbi and receive a torah scroll of his very own to commemorate this turning point in his life. This occurs in the fall on Simchat Torah eve; the time we begin to read the Torah from its beginning again, usually when your child has entered kindergarten.
