Rabbi Adrienne P. Scott – Associate Rabbi

Rabbi Adrienne Scott
Promoted to Associate Rabbi
June 2007

Congregation Beth Israel has enjoyed the dedication and services of Rabbi Adrienne Scott. In recognition of her time in the rabbinate and at Beth Israel, and with full support of the Board of Trustees, it is an honor to announce the promotion of Rabbi Scott to Associate Rabbi. Her presence continues to provide warmth and meaning in worship services, comfort in pastoral settings, and inspiration especially to our young members. We look forward to Rabbi Scott's continued growth with us and to all the ways we will celebrate Judaism, together.

Rabbi Scott, from Akron, Ohio, received her ordination from the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati, Ohio in June 2004. A graduate of the University of Cincinnati, she received her Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Judaic Studies in 1998. While an undergraduate student, she attended a one-year course at Ben Gurion University in BeerSheva, Israel. Upon graduation from the University of Cincinnati, Rabbi Scott moved to Texas to assume a one-year fellowship with the Hillel Foundation of Greater Houston. She worked as a Jewish Campus Service Corps Fellow throughout the year, focusing on outreach programming for the undergraduate students at Rice University and the University of Houston.

During her time at Hillel, she met her husband, David M. Scott, who was a law student at the University of Houston Law Center. Additionally, she had the opportunity that year to teach Sunday school at Congregation Beth Israel, as well as join the violin section of the Companile Orchestra at Rice University.

Following her position at Hillel, Rabbi Scott attended rabbinical school from 1999-2004. After spending her first year in Jerusalem, Israel, she returned to the Cincinnati, Ohio campus. During her time at HUC, Rabbi Scott served pulpits in Illinois, Indiana, Mississippi, and Florida. Additionally, she was very involved in both choral and orchestral groups throughout her rabbinical school career. Rabbi Scott and her husband returned to Houston in June 2004.

Rabbi Scott has served on the steering committee for the Run for the Rose and is a member of the National Council of Jewish Women-Concerned Young Woman's Division.  She has also been recently appointed as the Southwest Regional Representative of the Women's Rabbinic Network (WRN).

Rabbi Scott and her husband, David, are the proud parents of Beryt, who is 1-1/2 years old.  As a family, they enjoy watching movies, exercising and playing at the children's museum.
