Our Temple home here at 5600 N. Braeswood is our fourth major congregational home after more than 150 years. In the 1950’s and early 60’s Houston’s population began to shift west to the suburbs where a large part of Houston’s Jewish community and many Beth Israel members had moved. Beth Israel, too, was growing and our leadership recognized we needed more room. They purchased this site in 1964, in an area that had become the heart of Houston’s Jewish community, and began the design and construction. Our Temple opened its doors in 1967.
