Directions/Parking/Security

Congregation Beth Israel is located at 5600 North Braeswood in southwest Houston, between Hillcroft and Chimney Rock, on the north side of Brays Bayou a few blocks across from the Jewish Community Center.

From US-59, the Southwest Freeway:
From U.S. 59 heading north, exit Hillcroft, turn right at Hillcroft and head south until it intersects with North Braeswood. Turn left on N. Braeswood and go 1 ½ blocks. The synagogue will be directly on your left.

From Loop 610:
From Loop 610 heading south, exit Braeswood. Turn right on North Braeswood. Go past Rice Blvd and Chimney Rock, and you will see the synagogue on the right. Park in the lot at the front entrance or for services, turn right on Mullins and park in the lot at the rear of the facility.

Parking
Congregation Beth Israel offers parking to accommodate all drivers, including those with disabilities who may require handicapped parking. The parking lot off of Mullins Street has a total of 327 parking spaces; 15 of those spaces are reserved for handicapped parking. The main entrance off North Braeswood, adjacent to the main Temple offices, holds 43 parking slots, 4 of which are designated handicapped, two of those are van accessible.

Members will generally find it most convenient to park at the rear of the building during services, Shlenker School events, or other well attended events.

Those visiting Temple Offices or the Judaica Gift Shop on weekdays should use the entrance under the portico on Braeswood.

Security

The Leadership of our congregation is committed to the security of our campus and ensuring the protection of all our members, students and staff. In a process that began in early 2005, our Security Committee worked closely with the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston and local law enforcement officials to determine our security needs. A professional security analyst also provided an independent evaluation of our immediate and long term needs. The result of those reports became the blueprint for improving our overall security.

Funded by grants and your security fees, we have improved our perimeter fencing, updated and added to our campus surveillance abilities, added additional hours of onsite uniformed police, and provided much needed staff training.  These and other added improvements increase the security of our campus and those who work, learn, and pray in our beautiful facilities.

If you have any thoughts, concerns, recommendations, or would like to join in the work of your Security Committee, please contact the Temple office at 713-771-6221 or our Security Committee Chair:
Jay Harberg at j.harberg@hh-llp.com.
