With All Your Soul - to heal, to grow, to liveā€¦
This active committee identifies difficult transition times in life and provides programs to help strengthen individuals and families, from single parents, to parents of teenagers, empty nesters, children caring for parents, and the bereaved. W.A.Y.S. programs include:

Aliyah - Including Children with Special Needs

Aliyah is a program for children in the Congregation with special needs. Aliyah means to "raise up," and the goal of this program is to provide resources and Jewish education to enable children with special needs to become B'nai Mitzvah in the Congregation. Special thanks to Pat Mintz for coordinating this program with the MBJLC on behalf of WAYS. Aliyah is underwritten and made possible by a generous grant from the Jeremy Tucker Grant for Jewish Special Education, which was established by Margaret and Jeffrey Tucker in loving memory of their son, Jeremy Tucker. Contact the MBJLC for dates and times.

Bereavement Support Group

The loss of a loved one is a time filled with difficult emotions. Even with the support of friends and family, you may feel alone after a loss. Sharing your feelings and experiences with others in a similar situation can be helpful. Beth Israel is offering a bereavement support group to help during this difficult period. The group will be facilitated by Alisha Wagner, PhD, who is a clinical psychologist in private practice. For further information, please contact Rabbi Adrienne Scott.

Fitness for Your Body and Soul

Join our running rabbis on Sunday mornings as they leisurely lead a three mile jogging tour along Braes Bayou. Nourish your body, and then explore Jewish teachings to fill your soul. No prior experience needed. Please contact Rabbi Adrienne Scott for further information.

Jewish Cancer Support Group

Congregation Beth Israel is pleased to announce the formation of a Jewish Cancer Support Group for those who are survivors, who have recently been diagnosed or are living with the day to day challenges of this disease. The group will bring together those facing similar experiences in a safe and friendly environment. If you would like to be a part of this very important and necessary group in our community, please email Rabbi Adrienne Scott at ascott@beth-israel.org. We look forward to hearing from you on what types of programming would be most beneficial.

Divorce Support Group

We usually deal with common issues and concerns of those going through a divorce or post divorce in a supportive and friendly environment. If you are interested in attending or need more information, please contact Rabbi Adrienne Scott at (713) 771-6221, x. 329 or email her Assistant, Heidi Miller. There is no charge to members; a donation of $36 is assessed to non-members.

Other Support Group Classes

Throughout the year, the committee organizes various support group classes to deal with diverse topics ranging from issues affecting healthy relationships and partnerships among young marrieds, parents, caregivers, divorced couples and children, and many others.
