Make It A Summer To Remember!

2015 Summer Youth Internship Program

Every summer, the Beth Israel Summer Intern Committee provides opportunities for high school and college students (members of Beth Israel who will be 16 by September 1, 2015) to work at a social service agency in the Houston area, learn about community service, and earn a stipend. Students accepted into the program will have the chance to make a meaningful contribution while gaining valuable life experience and professional skills.

Students who are interested in the program should send an e-mail to Sara Kaiser ( to indicate their preliminary interest. Laura will then e-mail each student an application form, which must be returned by May 1st.

The Summer Intern Committee will conduct interviews with all applicants during March and early April. (Students attending college out of town can be interviewed by telephone.) The selection process should be completed, and candidates notified, by mid to late April. During the summer, interns will benefit from an orientation to their agency, as well as regular contact with a mentor from the committee. Students who complete a minimum of 120 hours (usually twenty hours a week for a six week period) will receive a stipend at the end of the program.

This program is now well into its second decade at Beth Israel. It has received glowing praise from both former interns and the agencies employing them. One former intern said, “I supervised, entertained, and influenced the children who resided at the emergency shelter. I got to bond with many of the children and staff members, as well as seeing how the shelter ran and the work it entailed. I had an amazing time and learned a lot about different people, as well as about myself. This was one of the best experiences I have had helping others.”
