Rabbi Joshua D. Herman - Assistant Rabbi

Rabbi Joshua HermanRabbi Herman was ordained in 2014 by the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati, OH.  During his rabbinical studies, Rabbi Herman received the Nathan Stern Award and Simon Lazarus Memorial Prize for academic achievement, as well as the Dr. and Mrs. Slonimsky Prize in Midrash.  He served student congregations in Louisiana, Indiana, and South Dakota, was a Jewish Foundation of Cincinnati Fellow at the Cincinnati Hillel and at the Bruggeman Center for Dialogue at Xavier University, and served on the board of Camp Livingston.  He also received a Master's Concentration in Israel Education from the iCenter in Chicago, IL.  Rabbi Herman holds a BA from the University of Wisconsin where he majored in Hebrew & Semitic Studies, Jewish Studies, and Philosophy.

While Rabbi Herman enjoys the full breadth of rabbinical responsibilities in the congregation, his primary focus is engaging the youth, young adults, and young families of Beth Israel.  He is active in the American-Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) and has a passion for Israel advocacy and education.

Rabbi Herman is a native of Milwaukee, WI where he grew up with his wife, Aviva.  He has an older brother and sister and is the proud uncle of his nephew, Eytan.  An avid sports fan, Rabbi Herman can often be found cheering on his beloved Wisconsin Badgers, Milwaukee Brewers, and Green Bay Packers.  His other interests include running, dogs, and spending time with friends and family.
